Narcisi Winery

On Saturday, September 19th, St. Bernard Young Adult Ministry had their annual winery trip. This year, we visited La Casa Narcisi Winery in Gibsonia, Pa.

After a brief wine-tasting, we moved out to the patio. There we sipped wine, enjoyed excellent food from Siba Cucina and listened to Pittsburgh rockers, Good Brother Earl.

It was a relaxing and fun afternoon! Thanks to all who joined us!

Young Adults Volunteer at Annual May Mart

On Friday, May 15th, some of our young adults volunteered their time at the Annual May Mart. May Mart is a festival fundraiser that benefits St. Bernard School. It was a beautiful evening filled with great food and drinks, live music, games, and of course, fellowship!

A very special thank-you to all of the young adults who gave their time on a Friday night to help out!

Diocesan Young Adult Ministry Training Workshop

On Monday, May 11, the Diocesan Young Adult Leadership Team sponsored a training workshop for parish leaders and volunteers. Sts. John and Paul in Wexford and St. Elizabeth of Hungary in the South Hills graciously hosted the event.

The workshop featured keynote speaker Anna Marie Troiani, Associate Director of Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministries for the Wheeling-Charleston Diocese.
Anna Marie presented an excellent introduction to young adult ministry as well tips for launching the ministry in a parish. Her information and insights provided the attendees with the foundation needed to dive into young adult ministry.

Two break-out sessions were also part of the workshop. They were titled, "How to Start a Theology On Tap" and "How to Make the Best of Young Adult Sunday".

Stay tuned for more events sponsored by the Diocesan Young Adult Leadership Team! Visit us online at: www.yampgh.org

Natural Law

At last night's FLIGHT, we discussed the basics of moral theology, including "natural law", as we began our four week series on in vitro fertilization and stem cell research. The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults served as our guide.

The Catechism for Adults is not available online but the Catechism of the Catholic Church is available here. The teachings on morality are found in Part III.

Kudos to Uptown Coffee for turning on the Pens game quietly in the background for us!

Diocese of Pittsburgh Vicariates

Our last FLIGHT discussion at Uptown Coffee was on the Diocese of Pittsburgh's plan to restructure the diocese from deaneries to vicariates. It was a good, lively conversation that led to several questions about ecclesiology. We based our discussion on information from the diocesan website.

To read all about the restructuring and to watch a video of Bishop Zubik explaining the changes, visit the Diocese of Pittsburgh's website.

Fellowship, food, and drinks were shared at the Saloon, a popular hang-out for young adults, immediately following the discussion. You can visit their site here.

Stem Cell Research and In Vitro Fertilization

During Wednesday FLIGHT sessions in May, we’ll be discussing what the Church teaches about Stem Cell Research and In Vitro Fertilization. Both are hot topics right now not only in the Church but also in American politics.

We meet at Uptown Coffee, located on Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon, on Wednesdays at 7:30p.m. While we teach the truth of our faith, our discussions are laid-back and we welcome all young adults no matter where they are in their faith journey. You won’t feel threatened if you disagree or pressured to talk during our discussions!
